Hello! It’s time for the bi-weekly When Colours Collide challenge again, and the prompt is orange, teal and grey. I have to admit, I drew a blank. I went and found the right colours from my stash, sat and stared at them a while, then went and painted my nails purple. However, inspiration strikes from the most unlikely places – I was watching Great British Sewing Bee and they made 60’s style colour block dresses, and that’s how this mani was born.
What I used:
Rimmel 60 Seconds Mary Mary Quite Contrary (pale grey creme)
Rimmel Keep Calm & Shop (orange creme)
Rimmel Salon Pro Nymph (teal creme)
Rimmel Salon Pro Moon (dark grey creme)
HK Girl Glisten & Glow (topcoat)
Straight nail vinyls (from She Sells Seashells)
I started off with three coats of Mary Mary Quite Contrary (it says one coat on the bottle, pffft) and then topcoated it and left it to dry. It’s very, very important to let it dry properly if you’re going to use vinyls or it will lift the polish, just like it did on my ring finger because I’m too impatient. I think the light reflection is hiding most of the mess!
I did each nail one at a time from this point. I applied the vinyls in a T shape, trying to get them as straight as possible, then painted in the blocks with my darker colours. I kept the grey to the small blocks, hoping it would make the brighter colours stand out more. I carefully peeled off the vinyls, then cleaned up any mess.
Once I’d done them all, I finished off with a coat of topcoat. I really liked these! They were very striking and the colours worked with my skin tone. They also ended up very glossy and plump, it was like wearing a gel manicure but without the removal headache.
My boyfriend looked at my nails and asked why I was wearing the Italian flag. Sigh.
I’ll leave you with the collage of all of the group manis, if you’d like to see individual shots, search #whencolourscollide on Instagram, or join in the Facebook group.
See you soon,
Love,
Jo x
Haha! Is the boyfriend a bit colour blind? They don’t look at all like the Italian flag to me!
