This week the prompts for the pick n mix challenge are domestic animals, and 3 shades of blue. I’m hoping to get both done if I have time – I’m away at the weekend so the blue mani would have to last me a few days… which also means planning my outfits around my nail polish! I’m sure things are supposed to work the other way round…
Anyway, on to the challenge. I’ve chosen cats as my animal – I’ve always been a cat person, and there has nearly always been a cat in my life. I’m sure, if it wasn’t for the restraining influence of my partner, that I would turn into the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons.
Apologies in advance for the photos. The extreme close up makes my nails look a million times worse than they do in real life.
I started off with my base colours – the green is Revlon ‘Wintermint’, the white is Barry M ‘Coconut’ and I’ve forgotten the blue but it’s a Maybelline. Three coats of everything to make a nice opaque base. ‘Wintermint’ has very pretty subtle blue glitters in it, which match the blue polish nicely (I planned it that way, honest!)
The cat water decals came from She Sells Seashells, and were really easy to use once I’d realised that you have to take the clear film off the front first. D’oh. In my defence, I’ve never used decals before. I then free-handed the paw prints using a Pink Tease black nail art pen. One coat of Seche Vite topped it all off. Obviously I hadn’t left the paw prints long enough to dry because I smudged them a bit, it’s barely visible in real life but looks horrendous in the pics!
I’m going to dedicate this post to my beautiful kittie Cleo, who passed away Sept 1st 2014 after spending the past 18 years with me. Miss you loads xx
